History

Founded by Jonathan Bird in 1837, Port Austin is rich in history. 

Even the Lakeside Motor Lodge has some history in it roots! Once an actual motor sales company that also rented cottages to weary travelers, Lakeside Motor Sales operated during the 1930s and can be seen in the picture above.

The rich history of Port Austin can be found scattered about town. From old buildings and homes, to the Port Austin Reef Light, history can be seen just about anywhere. If you are interested in learning more about the history of Port Austin during your stay, make sure to stop by the Port Austin History Center, just east of downtown Port Austin.
